Endangered Species, a trio made up of accordion, bass saxophone and trombone, came together as an idea for a band with three creative musicians for one gig in New Jersey. The gig itself was simple: the three players were hired to provide music following a screening of the documentary "The Girls In The Band." We immediately surprised ourselves with how intimate and playful the music was: the timbres of the non-traditional voices blended in a unique way and the interplay was unusually fluid. We began the performance as an early jazz trio and quickly realized that our sound defied genre classification and we were not limited to one traditional repertoire. Because we live in three states we rarely get to play together. Tom and Emily perform frequently together in traditional jazz settings in NYC but rarely have opportunities for off-stage creative composition. Our excitement about our initial performance in March, 2014 led to these recordings .
